Reto Albertalli

Reto Albertalli (*1979) is a Swiss photographer living and working between his native canton Ticino, and Geneva where he is co-founder and director of the Phovea Photo Agency.

After receiving his leaving certificate in Arts at the Liceo Artistico (CSIA) in Lugano, and graduating in 2003 from the School of Photography in Vevey, he became a professional photographer working for the press, development agencies and the corporate sector.

He has been awarded the first prize for the “Swiss Young Talents”, the second prize in the category “World” at the “Swiss Press Photo” and was several times selected for the “Swiss Photo Award”. Reto has also been granted the honour-mention in the Yann Geffroy Prize held by the Grazia Neri Agency in Milan. He has been nominated three times to the World Press Masterclass and participated to the international “Noor – Focus on Monferrato” Masterclass.

Reto enjoys travelling to pursue his passion for photography: his travels have brought him to Mali, Romania, ex-Yugoslavia, Iran, Afghanistan, the Palestinian Occupied Territories as well as several European cities. This also permitted the start of the collaboration with the prestigious Rolex company, documenting its Philantropic Projects in Middle-Eastern countries as well as South America.

He also volunteers as a photographer and digital storytelling teacher for children living in conflict zones. Reto, through photography, helps children explore alternatives to their realities, far from the known and sometimes unjust clichés. This enables the children to express feelings in a language almost secret to their daily life.

Reto speaks Italian, Swiss German, German, French, and English.
